How Much Space Do You Need for a Bounce House?

The most common reason a delivery goes sideways is space. Not price, not weather, not availability. Somebody books a 30 foot obstacle course for a yard that cannot hold it, and we are standing in the driveway on a Saturday morning having an awkward conversation. Fifteen minutes with a tape measure prevents all of it.

The three measurements you need

• Length and width of the flat area where the unit will sit
• Height clearance overhead, checking for branches, power lines, eaves and basketball hoops
• Gate width and the path from the street to the backyard

Write those three numbers down and compare them against the dimensions listed on any product page on our site. Every listing shows the footprint.

Add three feet on every side

The listed dimensions are the inflatable itself. You also need clearance around it: about three feet on all sides so the unit is not rubbing a fence, so we can stake it properly, and so kids getting off are not landing against a brick wall. A slide that is 15 by 30 really needs about 21 by 36 of usable yard.

For slides specifically, leave extra room at the bottom exit. That is where kids land and keep moving.

The gate is the real bottleneck

Most of our units need a gate opening of at least 36 inches. Rolled up, an inflatable is heavy and rigid and does not squeeze. If your only access is a 30 inch gate, or the path goes up a flight of stairs, or the backyard is only reachable through the house, tell us when you book. Sometimes we can work with it, sometimes we need to suggest a different unit, but we cannot solve it in the driveway.

Surface matters

Grass is ideal because we can stake into it. Concrete and driveways work but require sandbags and are harder on the vinyl, so no wet setups there. Artificial turf usually works with sandbags. Gravel, dirt and sand all need a conversation first. Indoors and gym floors are fine for dry units with proper anchoring.

Whatever the surface, clear it before we arrive. That means picking up pet waste, rocks, sticks, sprinkler heads, dog toys and anything else that could puncture the vinyl. We will not set up over a mess, and cleanup time is not part of your rental window.

Slope

A slight slope is workable. A real hill is not. If a ball rolls noticeably across your yard, mention it when you book. Setting an inflatable on a slope pushes all the kids to one end and makes the whole thing unstable.
